Madison Area Club

I have been approached on several occasions over the past year by different people aksing about the possibility of starting an all-species aquarium club in Madison, Wisconsin.  This blog page is intended to be a place for interested persons to take part in a conversation about starting a club.  If we can get a core group of about 20 interested people, then we could schedule a get together and have a more serious discussion.

So, leave a comment if you are interested in participating in a Madison-based club.  If you have no doubts that you want to be involved, send me an email and I will start a list.

Depending on how often the club would meet, I’d be interested, although I’m by no means any kind of expert on anything! I just enjoy the hobby…

If we can get 15 - 20 people to show interest in this, I will plan a get-together / cookout at my place so that we can met and discuss the idea in detail. It would probably have to be on a Sunday afternoon later this Spring. If you know anyone else who might be interested, please direct them to this blog and ask them to add their comment.

Ted, we should ask the local fish stores to post something about this. I ran into a worker at Aquarium Superstore yesterday who was really jazzed by the idea.

    Hi Ted,

Sounds like a great idea. I think it would be very interesting to be involved with starting a club “from the ground up”.

    Ted,

Hey Ted, I”ll post some stuff down here at the couple of stores in janesville and beloit with My contact info, maybe get some interest from down here. we could possibly have this start out as a meet at members places type situation like the Killi Club in wisconsin.

    Ted Says:

By my count we are up to 12 interested people. Awesome. I think that we need at least 15 - 20 to give this venture a strong chance. Spreading the word through the stores is a good idea, but we need to make sure that the stores are comfortable with supporting a club. Since we are not yet a club I do not know if signage is appropriate yet.

If we want to set a day and time for a meeting at my home, we can do that. Here are some days that I can do it coming up this Spring: May 17th or 18th, May 24th or 25th, May 31 or June 1st.

Ted, I stopped in and talked to Paul briefly about a Madison Area General Fish club. He indicated I could post a notice that we are trying to find out the level of interest.

He went on to say that he would be happy to support the club in some way. For instance if we had a club ID Card he would be willing to offer club members a discount.

I thought we should post something along the lines of this?

Interested in a Madison Based General Fish club?

A small group of Madison area hobbiest have been talking about this for a while. If you are interested go to
http://WWW.TEDSFISHROOM.COM and look for the link concerning a potential Madison Club. Or call Randy Peterson at (608)
    xxx xxxx.

Others posting notices could either just point at the blog or add their name and phone, or email address.

    Thoughts,

I would be happy to put something like this together and get it into the stores if you are comfortable with that much.

    Hi Ted,
With the season behind me for the most part, have more free time now. Am up for helping out on this, can count me, +1. I would prolly avoid the weekend of the 24/25th as that is the weekend of the Classic.. There are a handful of hobby people that are employed with AS in Madison that we’re meeting up with this weekend, will mention/direct them this way as well.

Ted, there is a plant club meeting this week on Wednesday night. I will not be there as I am traveling for work this week. But I did forward your information to John and I believe he is including this information in the club’s email news letter.

I spoke with some of the folks at teh Janesville Preferred pets and they seemed to be indifferent to the idea of the club. I’m not holding much hope for support from there

Well everyone… this discussion has sort of died away. I know that everyone gets pretty busy in the summer.

Unfortunately my schedule is so packed with fish-related events that I do not foresee a time to have a get together at my place anytime until after Labor Day. There is no reason why a get together could not be planned for somewhere else, however.

I would LOVE to see a club get started in the Madison area, but I just cannot be the spearhead to get it done. I will support the effort in every way I can, but my role will have to be as an active advisor. Someone else will have to do the ground work. Between the American Cichlid Association, the Milwaukee A. S., my speaking schedule and my planning for a trip tpo Africa in February… I am a tad swamped.
